Bosch's Little Big Saw - What Can This Month's Featured Tool Do?

Bosch Table Saw GTS1031

When you need a solid job site saw, you want something that combines power and performance with ease of use and mobility. Bosch's 10" Portable Job Site Table Saw, the GTS1031, delivers on everything the name promises. Designed to be carried one-handed, this awesome portable saw provides strong performance. Here's our look at this saw's portability, ease of use and suitability for professional-grade use.

Bosch Portable Table Saw

We've all heard the saying: good things come in small packages. When it comes to the GTS1031 from Bosch, the saying is more than true. Featuring a 4HP motor that ramps up to 15 amps and an effortless 5,000 RPMs with a strong 10" carbide blade, this saw makes even the most onerous cuts easy to manage. In fact, some reviewers mention using it to rip hardwood with no real strain. Weighing in at 52 pounds, the all-steel design provides a lightweight but strong frame with a single balanced handle, allowing you to both open the door to opportunity and get your saw through it in one go. Overall, as with so many of Bosch's professional-grade tools, this little saw will take a licking and keep on ticking.

Stacking sideways at a slender 22.5" square by 13" wide, it's easy to fit this saw into the pocket in front of your wheel well in your pickup or simply tossed in back of your quad cab. It also has a number of safety features in Bosch's Smart Guard System, a boon when the new guy on the crew doesn't understand the difference between a bevel, a crosscut and a dado. This system includes an easy-to-use blade guard, anti-kickback pawls and a riving knife to ensure superior control over your lumber when it's under the blade.

The saw also features smart on-board storage of accessories right under the table, where they're close to hand but not in the way. The SquareLock Rip fence ensures you're always cutting true while the tool-free dust chute gives you easy access to keeping the cuts clean and easy to see. An available dado plate and folding stand help up this tough little saw's capability.

But what about specs? At 90 degree cuts, the GTS1031 is capable of ripping through 3-1/8" cuts, while at 45 degrees, very close to the maximum bevel capacity of 47 degrees, the saw can still cut through 2-1/4" of lumber. Ripping capacity is a svelte 7-3/4" on the left and a solid foot and a half on the right. It comes standard with a 24 tooth carbide blade, rip fence, miter gauge, the SmartGuard system mentioned above, a push stick and a pair of blade-changing wrenches, all of which store handily under the table for ease of reach and safe transport storage. After all, who hasn't accidentally lost or misplaced a loose machine tool that was desperately needed once you got to the job site?

The GTS1031 gives you big-saw performance combined with little-saw portability and serious professional-grade durability worthy of the brand.
